INJECTOR CHANGING INSTRUCTIONS

Injectors can be changed without dismounting the throttle body from the manifold or disconnecting any fuel hoses as follows:

1.       Remove three button head allen screws and the chrome air cleaner cover.

2.       Remove three 3/8 hex coupling nuts that secure the cover plate to the backing plate standoffs.  This allows the cover plate to swing free on the system wires.

3.       Remove the air filter

4.       Unscrew the two upper injector mounting screws.  These screws secure the upper fuel cap to the backing plate.  They can be left in place along with the spacers that are between the top fuel cap and the backing plate.  Do not loosen the lower fuel cap mounting screws.

5.       Unplug the power and ground wires from the top of the fuel pump.

6.       Remove head-to-backing plate mounting bolts.

7.       Remove the three button head allen screws that secure the backing plate to the throttle body.  These screws are located on the periphery of the throttle bore.  This allows the backing plate to pull out from the throttle body to a small extent.

8.       Remove the top fuel cap from the top injector.  CAUTION: fuel will squirt, leak.  Remove injector electrical connector.  Squeeze connector bale down against connector to disengage it from the injector body.  Remove the top injector from its boss in the throttle body.  The injectors are o-ring mounted, and are a tight fit in their bosses.

9.       Pull the backing plate down and away from the throttle body to disconnect the lower fuel cap from its injector.  Unplug injector connector.

10.   Remove the bottom injector from its boss.

11.   Plug new injector into the lower throttle body boss.  Use o-ring lubricant or engine oil to lubricate the injector o-rings.  Plug in injector connector.  It locks in place.

12.   Push backing plate in and up to plug bottom fuel cap onto lower injector.

13.   Plug new top injector into its throttle body boss.  Plug in connector.

14.   Push top fuel cap onto top injector.

15.   Replace backing plate-to-throttle body mounting screws.  Loctite is good here.

16.   Screw top fuel cap to backing plate, insuring that spacers are still between fuel cap and backside of backing plate.  Replace the #8 internal star lockwashers with new ones, to preclude the screws from coming loose in service.  If new lockwashers are not available use blue Loctite.

17.   Reconnect the fuel pump power and ground wires.

18.   Reinstall the air filter, insuring that the backing plate side of air filter is clear of the screw heads on the backing plate.

19.   Mount the cover plate with three coupling nuts.

20.   Replace the chrome air cleaner cover.
